Survivor-led site lists 2,700+ Protestant leaders publicly accused of abuse or cover-up

A survivor-led nonprofit launched ProtestantAccountability.org on August 19, 2026 with a searchable archive of more than 2,700 people publicly accused of committing or covering up sexual abuse in Protestant settings, Christianity Today and The Roys Report reported.

Organizers say entries come from already public material — criminal filings, lawsuits, and news reports — and that the project does not conduct independent investigations. The site requires users to accept terms stating that nothing on it should be read as a finding of guilt.

Chellee Taylor, a Southern Baptist abuse survivor who has described settling with a Florida church, leads the effort with a small volunteer team of survivors. Both CT and The Roys Report say the team consulted Terry McKiernan of BishopAccountability.org, the long-running Catholic clergy-abuse archive that has documented thousands of accused priests since the early 2000s. ProtestantAccountability.org is framed as a Protestant counterpart to that Catholic archive — the same kind of public records project, not a claim that abuse is unique to one tradition.

CT and The Roys Report note that Southern Baptist messengers voted in 2022 to create Ministry Check after Guidepost Solutions documented a large internal list of accused abusers; by 2025, SBC Executive Committee leaders had put that database on hold and said it was not a focus.
