Missouri voters reject Amendment 3, keeping 2024 abortion-rights amendment in place
With all precincts reporting, unofficial results show Missouri voters defeating Amendment 3, 55.5% to 44.5%. The measure would have repealed the abortion-rights amendment approved in 2024 and written a ban on gender-transition procedures for minors into the constitution. The Missouri Independent reported that many of the state's largest churches had backed it.

Missouri voters on Tuesday, Nov. 3, rejected Amendment 3, an effort by Republican lawmakers to repeal the abortion-rights amendment voters approved in 2024. With all 3,214 precincts reporting, unofficial Secretary of State results show 1,173,172 votes (55.5%) against and 941,065 (44.5%) in favor.
The amendment would have allowed abortion only in medical emergencies, for fetal anomalies, and in cases of rape or incest within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. It also would have written a ban on gender-transition procedures for minors into the state constitution. Its defeat leaves in place the 2024 amendment, which voters approved with 51.6%, and abortion stays legal up to fetal viability, the Leader reported.
The campaign for the amendment, Her Health, Her Future, had organized support from Republican lawmakers, Gov. Mike Kehoe's office and "many of the state's largest churches," the Missouri Independent reported. It raised more than $7 million, while the opposing Stop the Ban campaign raised more than $27 million. Some anti-abortion activists, including Republican state Sen. Mike Moon, opposed the measure because it allowed exceptions.
"We came up short today, but this is a battle in a war," said Tom Estes of Her Health, Her Future. Mallory Schwarz, executive director of Abortion Action Missouri, said her side had "fought harder than ever" to protect the 2024 amendment.
