Anglican Communion to launch "Vision36," a push to plant or renew one million congregations by 2036

The Anglican Communion will launch Vision36 on Nov. 11 at a service in Nairobi, Kenya. The decade-long plan invites its member churches to plant or renew one million congregations by 2036. Premier Christian News coverage largely follows the Communion's own press release.

The Anglican Communion plans to launch an initiative called Vision36 on Wednesday, Nov. 11. The service will be held at St Julian's Retreat Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, at 10 a.m. East Africa Time, and livestreamed. The stated aim is for every Anglican to grow as a disciple of Jesus and for every church to plant a new congregation or be renewed. Together, that would mean one million new or renewed congregations by 2036.

The plan was shaped by the Anglican Communion Commission for Evangelism and Discipleship (ACCED), a group of church-planting and mission specialists. The Anglican Consultative Council affirmed it at its 19th meeting (ACC-19) in Belfast earlier this year. After the launch, each member church will be invited to adapt Vision36 to its own setting, name a representative and draw up an action plan. New congregations will be encouraged to follow the Communion's "Safe Church" safeguarding principles. Vision36 follows the Communion's 2016–2026 Season of Intentional Discipleship.

"It is fitting to hold the launch in the Anglican Church of Kenya, a Province like many others around the Communion that is seeing church growth and new congregations being planted," said Canon Stephen Spencer of the Anglican Communion Office. The details here come from the Communion's Nov. 3 press release. Premier Christian News's report largely follows that release.
